Hey Punit,

I agree with most of the points. Even operating system can be delivered as an on-demand web service/combination of services. Check out this article by NY Times http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/05/technology/05compute.html?_r=1&ref=technology&oref=slogin

Though I can see your point, I would probably not term it as a U-turn looking at a few intrinsic details while comparing client-server and on-demand computing models:

- Client-server did not necessarily mean "thin" clients in those early days.
- One of the major drivers of on-demand service model is cost. Client-server was totally different in this arena from OD service.
- Though this is thin-computing, it may still be a distributed model where numerous on-demand modules belonging to different vendors/ modules/ networks may be integrated to provide a solution (thats not happening right now but thats one of drivers of this entire thing too). This was out of imagination for client-server model.

@rajesh

that's the reason YouTube went into revenue sharing alliance with Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and CBS. Universal was on the verge of suing YouTube. Had that been done, YouTube would have become Napster number 2.

I'm sure Google is gonna look for more alliances to reduce the possibilites of law suits.

Interesting read.

Small company experience certainly gives a broader scope of work and an experience of "building" things. But, working in a big company gives the swimming-in-the-harsh-sea kinda experience, which is very necessary as well.

I would say, work in a small co initially, but make sure you move to a big co. at a right time - just when you need to learn handling harsh-sea things. But, I've seen many ppl develop a liking for small companies and these ppl then just stay there. Its important to move on. When exactly should one move on, then, is the question..

Agree completely. Having worked in a small company and a big one, i've seen both sides. Your analysis is accurate. Personally, , I found the experience of working in a small company far more satisfying and a much better learning experience. I think its good to work in a small firm in the early stages of your career.
